Mental Health in College

I'll never understand how students in college are expected to exceed in academics, extracurriculars, volunteering, work, and still find time to go to the gym, hang with friends, and most importantly, take care of their mental health.

I sometimes feel like living proof of the impossible.  The busiest. But I don't understand why students are expected to go above and beyond on top of academics. If I am being honest, being a COM major,  I've had much more availability to even take my Social Media Marketing Minor, be as involved on campus, and even run my own business.

Not everyone has the same academic course load and I am thankful I can balance it out. Although, at a point in time, I realize that I am not taking time for myself which caused me to fall behind.

I wish there was more at Universities like taking a "Mental Health" day at least once a month. What do you think as a student?

  1. You are right. A mental health day should be something acknowledged. Colleges should do a better of job providing mental health education and resources for creating a healthy self-care routine. With so much going on it can be hard to find the time or even know where to start. Only a few more weeks left and then a little extra you time each day!

  2. I think that mental health especially with college students should be a topic that is discussed more. I think that there are a lot of students that are struggling at various degrees that don't necessarily now where to go on campus to receive help. I think that there should be more effective ways to get the message out to college students about the resources that are available. - Kamia

  3. I agree so much! I feel like my mental health takes a back seat when it comes to being a college student. It's mostly because I have such a busy schedule that I never find time to give my mental health enough attention. Being a senior honestly made it worse. I feel like this year class can be so inconveniencing because I have work and clients and jobs to apply for. What helps me is getting more comfortable with communicating with professors and letting them know I need time to make sure my mental health is okay.
